What are some good oblique exercises that can be done with an exercise ball?
pretend that your doing a regular sit up but put your knees to the side.
rest your feet at the top of the ball, and lay out rest on you elbow, and dip down, don’t rest but your waist should hit the ground.

Piriformis Sciatica
Sunday, December 11th, 2011piriformis sciatica

Sciatica or Piriformis syndrome? Or something else?
yesterday about 20-30 mins before i left home i started to get this sharp pain above my left butt cheek. im a few pounds overweight and ive had lower back pain for about a couple months now because i exercised too hard or something. but this pain is very unique, especially since it came out of nowhere and it only affects my left side.
i guess the pain is mostly on the lower back and on the top of the glute, but only on the left side. when i try to bend out and grab something, i feel some pain behind my left thigh as well.
sciatica and piriformis are almost identical, but im not sure which one i have. how long does it usually last? should i avoid any form of exercise while still suffering from it? and are there stretches, etc that i can do to speed up the healing process? thanks.
Hi Bananables.
Sciatica and piriformis syndrome are the same thing. Both conditions are caused by compression of the same nerve namely the sciatic nerve. The only difference is that piriformis syndrome is caused by the piriformis muscle that compresses and irritates the sciatic nerve that is located in the buttocks. It is called sciatica when the sciatic nerve is compressed in the lumbar area in the lower back.
I would suggest first let a doctor diagnose your problem before you start to treat anything. The wrong treatment can cause more damage than good.
Exercise is usually a very good way to treat sciatica. Usually a patient should wait a few days after an attack before starting exercises and stretches.
Thank you

Treatment For Chronic Back Pain

Chronic back pain for 8 years, suggestions on treatment that I haven’t tried?
I’ve had back pain for about 8 years. I’m 5’7″ and 130lbs. I’m only 20 years old but the pain is daily and frustrating. I’ve been to a chiropractor for 4 years with no improvement. I try stretches and exercise but that only makes the pain worsen. I’m at a loss. any suggestions?
It is not a pinched nerve, or scoliosis, like I said, I’ve been to a chiropractor with no improvement, they would be able to fix those problems. They couldn’t figure out what was causing the pain so I went 3 times a week for treatments to make me comfortable.
There’s an excellent treatment you haven’t tried..isn’t this good news? It’s muscle balance therapy and you can find out about it in this video, which explains it better than I can, hope this is your solution!
