Spasms usually start when nerve or muscle fibers get stressed. Muscles spasm involuntarily and cause back and other pain. If muscle fibers and nerves cannot connect in a normal manner, back pain does result. Sensory nerves fail to send signals to muscles and other areas of the body, and this leads to back pain. Back pain, basically, can come from many sources but usually it’s associated with spasms from malfunctioning muscles and nerves.

Causes of muscle spasms

•	Fatigued muscles.

•	Dehydration after exercise.

•	Pregnancy and associated weight gain.

•	Hypothyroidism, a deficiency of calcium and magnesium.

•	Hormone deficiencies (causing muscle spasms).

•	Excessive drinking leading to failure of the kidneys.

•	Weight gain in general.

•	Lack of proper nutrition.

Gentle stretching can help reduce or even eliminate some muscle spasms. Do a few minutes of it before exercising. This is why dancers warm up. Muscle spasms are abnormal contractions of the muscles and they can cause shuddering, twinges, seizures, tremors and paroxysm. The latter can cause sudden outburst, convulsions and other symptoms. The key is to warm up and get loose before performing any amount of physical activity. Give your muscles and body a chance to practice beforehand, so to speak.

Ligaments and tendons affect the muscles and start back pain if not properly used. They are the linkages between our bones and muscles. They help with sitting, bending, movement, walking and standing. Muscles are the main component in movement but the helper ligaments and tendons are vital. Proper nutrition and exercise are vital so you can move and continue to move properly. The body is a machine and all of the connecting components have to work together so we can perform pain-free movement. Look after each part and it will be a healthy whole.

Shoes and posture and nutrition and exercise all play a part in both experiencing back pain from muscle spasms, and eliminating as much of it as you can. In essence, if you eat right, hydrate properly, get some exercise (stretching out beforehand of course), perhaps practising meditation or yoga, and get enough sleep and wear comfortable shoes. Then most back pain can be eliminated. At least, that which is caused by muscle spasms. You don’t have to spend any money when you start on the path to better back health. Rolling out the exercise mat or using an exercise ball at home, is a great start. Check your diet and see what you can do to improve it. Make sure you get enough of the proper vitamins and minerals, or use a supplement if you want to. As always, check with your doctor if your back pain or spasms are sudden and severe.

You have long muscles that run along the spine called the erector spinae muscles. These are often the guilty muscles when you have back pain and muscle spasms. A spasm is an involuntary contraction of the muscle for a sustained period of time. Usually a spasm occurs when the muscle has been suddenly stressed somehow which can include injury, sprains, tears or bruising. The spasm can actually start in the nerves that lead into the muscle though the feeling is the same no matter where the spasm starts.

Most of the time muscle spasms are painful, but not serious. It should be mentioned though that in some cases, the spasm may be a symptom of a more serious problem. The back is composed of bones, muscles and ligaments, and injury or disease to any component can result in back pain muscle spasms.

Back pain and muscle spasms can occur anywhere along the spine from the neck to the lower back. A spasm can occur once or it can happen repeatedly. Often the spasm makes the muscle feel sore and tight even after the spasm subsides. So when you deal with muscle spasms you have two goals. The first goal is to attempt to prevent the reoccurrence of the spasm. The second goal is to relive the pain and tension after the spasm.

There are many ways you can approach management of back pain and muscle spasms at home. First, you should keep moving. You don’t want to go to bed and lie still, because that will cause the muscle to hurt more. Light exercises will relieve the muscle stress while strengthening and toning. Also, you can use an ice pack applied to the area and decrease the muscle spasm pain. In addition, you should avoid any heavy lifting or moves similar to the moves you were doing before the spasm.

If your back pain and muscle spasms don’t get better with home remedies, you may have to visit the doctor. Frequently, muscle relaxants are prescribed to relieve muscle tightness. Muscle relaxants are a short term solution meant to give relief from pain while the muscle heals. Some people find enough relief by using over-the-counter anti-inflammatory pain relievers. Many medications you can now buy yourself are what were once considered full prescription strength. All of the drugs can reduce swelling and increase muscle flexibility.

Other forms of therapy for back pain [http://releasebackpain.com/back] and muscle spasms include massage or physical therapy. But one of the most important therapies you can do yourself. That’s to maintain good posture. Good posture lets your spine work the way it was designed to work. Maintaining good posture is important during any activity too and not just while standing. You should stand, sit, walk and lift while maintaining proper spine position. This will help you avoid muscle injury and sprains that can lead to muscle spasms.

Backpain is a common phenomenon in the United States with nearly 80% of the population suffering from it. The overuse of the muscles in the back or a strain/injury to the muscles and ligaments supporting the spine are the most common causes of back pain.

Backpain can be acute, recurrent or chronic. Most of the people suffering from back pain fall in the first category wherein the pain vanishes in about six weeks and home remedies prove to be very effective. In the case of the recurrent category, the pain reappears after some time while chronic pain lasts for a longer period of time.

A strain in the back muscles due to bending, twisting or lifting some weight generally leads to backpain. An infection, arthritis or ovarian cysts can also be a cause of back pain. In today’s times people often sit in one posture for a long time and thus experience pain in their backs.

Backpain may emerge suddenly but it develops over a longer period of time and is generally a result of a strain in the back muscles. The accumulation of acidic byproducts such as lactic acid and pyruvic acid restricts the normal functioning of muscle tissues and leads to irritation or pain in the muscles. This results in a problem known as delayed-onset muscle soreness (DOMS).

The effective treatment of one’s backpain can only be done after a proper diagnosis of the factors causing the pain is done. A severe back pain may often be the result of muscle spasms emanating from a simple back strain. On the other hand a person with a herniated disc may not experience any pain in his back for a long period of time. So it is very important to know about the real cause of the back pain. An injury to the muscle ligament or tendon is less worrisome and easily curable than a bone fracture or tumor in the spine.

The most common symptoms of backpain due to a herniated disc are the numbness in the legs and the back. Degenerative disc disorder and osteoarthritis can result in a situation where the pain aggravates with the movement of the back. A minor pain in the back can also be due to the initiation of arthritis. An orthopedic surgeon or a spine specialist should be consulted in case of chronic pain.

Nothing Seems To Get Rid Of My Nagging Back Pain What Now?
by: Jesse Cannone CFT, CPRS, CSPN and Steve Hefferon, CMT

I’m just guessing, but heres what your experience with back pain has probably been like:

You probably went to your family doctor first, or a chiropractor. Your visit likely only lasted 15 minutes or so they poked around and confirmed that you do have back pain and gave you a prescription for the pain. Now before we go any further, let me ask you this: how in the heck is a prescription drug going to fix a physical problem like back pain?

Doctor visits, chiropractic adjustments, physical therapy, pain relievers, anti-inflammatories, new mattress, rub on creams, and the list goes on

Im sure youve tried several or maybe even many on that list yet youre back still hurts. Why arent any of the experts helping or treatments working?

The answer is simple

Its all in the approach most, if not all, of the treatments people receive for back pain are flawed from the start. Im not going to cover each of them in detail in this article, however, if you would like to learn more about traditional treatments for back pain and why they dont work, I suggest you read my article on the subject here: http://www.losethebackpain.com/backpaintreatments.html

You and I already know that those treatments just dont work, so I want to give you some information that you can use to take control of your own health and well being and find the treatment that will finally get rid of your back pain once and for all.

It has been my experience that trying to convince somebody of something they are unfamiliar with is just about impossible. so instead of me telling you what to do, I want to give you the tools for you to do it yourself.

Step one: First, you must understand that pain is your bodys way of telling you something is wrong dont ignore it! And in order to fix it or get rid of it, you must first know whats causing it.

Step two: Be open-minded in order to find a solution youll need to be willing to learn and please dont be afraid to look for and/or ask for help.

There are thousands of sources of information in the world on upper back pain, lower back pain and back pain in general, but if you dont know how to sort through all that information it will be useless to you.

Step three: Take action now youre going to do it, and with my help! You do not have to live with low back pain, upper back pain, sciatic pain, or any back pain for that matter and you can feel great again.

You have two options:

1. Leave it up to your doctor or chiropractor and hope it gets taken care of

or

2. You can take control of your back care yourself and ensure it gets taken care of

I dont know about you, but its a no brainer for me!

But, I know you may be feeling like theres NO solution and maybe youve even resigned yourself to the fact that youll have back pain for the rest of your life I hope thats not the case because you do have the power and ability to eliminate it.

If you choose option one, leaving your back health in the hands of someone other than yourself, at least educate yourself enough to know what questions you need to be asking.

The next time you go to the doctor or chiropractor, bring a pen and paper along with the list of questions below:

What is the cause of the pain? (Not the symptom, but the actual cause)
Is it muscular or structural? (involving the bones of the spine)
If its muscular have the doctor, chiropractor, physical therapist, etc name exactly which muscles and other muscles that may be involved.
Do I need an X-ray, CT-scan or MRI?
Did I have a predisposition for the injury based on my life style and daily postures?
Do I have muscle imbalances that created this condition over time?
Will I have muscle imbalances still after your treatment?
Will it heel 100%?
Are there specific exercises or stretches to do for my condition?
Which muscles should I stretch and which muscles should I strengthen?
Will I do more harm than good if I dont do the right activities?
Will the physical therapist you are sending me to have the time to spend one on one with me to effectively work with me?
Will Ultra Sound and Electrical Stimulation correct my muscle imbalances?

I could go on and on with questions like these that you should ask your doctor, but we both know that you wont because you dont want to piss off the doctor and then worry that youll get bad care next time.

So did I just waist my time and yours by listing them out. Heck no, these are great questions to use when trying to find a treatment approach that will work for you.

We already know what doesnt work and why, lets talk now about what does work. In order for any back care program or approach to be successful, it must include the following criteria:

Identify the root cause of the problem
Treat both the symptom and the cause
Focus on the body as a whole and not zoom in on only the problem area
Physical problems can only be treated and corrected with a physical approach
Address muscle imbalances with targeted strength, flexibility, and muscle work
Be easy to understand, implement, and progress
Help you maintain a healthy back and prevent future occurrences

So how can you find a back care program that not only meets all these criteria, but is proven to work far better than traditional treatments?

Just do a little research you can use the internet to find all sorts of information and resources on back pain, but remember, it must meet the criteria we outlined above our its guaranteed to fail!

Dont give up, its out there, if you take the time to look youll find it maybe right under your nose!

Muscle spasms have been one of the most common causes of lower back pain. Though the medical world is still not sure what exactly causes spasms, but as per the recent research and studies, some of the possible factors that may lead to muscle spasms include stretching too much, carrying a heavy object improperly, and mental stress. Back spasms are usually more common in those who live sedentary lifestyles. There are certain symptoms that may indicate that the pain in your lower back has actually been caused by spasms. Some of these symptoms include sharp shooting pains and inability to bend in certain directions. Following tips and suggestions can be very helpful in treating such condition.

Consult Your Doctor

The first step in treating such lower back pain problems is to consult your doctor immediately after you notice frequent occurrences of spasms, such as more than once every month. You are strongly recommended not to overlook such problems because if the spasms are seemingly occurring without any specific reason it may indicate a more severe underlying condition.

Maintain An Up-Right Position

People with such conditions often have the temptation to lie on their back, but if you want to get relief, you must try to maintain an upright position. It is very important for you to understand that the spasms may last much longer if you lie still most of the times – it only intensifies the pain.

Gentle Movement

If you want to make the spasms subside, you should try to keep your movements gentle. For example, if bending or twisting results in sharp lower back pain, you should avoid turning too much – walk as straight as you can. Likewise, if spasms hit while you are lying on your back, you should first roll on your side and then prop you up to get off the bed using your arms. Walk slowly and straight if the spasms hit while in standing position.

Choose Your Activities Carefully

You are also advised not to indulge in activities that may make your back tense up. For example, you should avoid activities like picking something up by bending down or sucking in your stomach. If you really have to pick something up, the best way is to spread your legs and then squat to reach down while keeping the back straight.

Sitting For Long Hours

If you have to sit for long hours while you work, using a stability ball as your chair can be a great idea to relieve lower back pain caused by muscle spasms. You should sit on the chair with your legs spread.

Overall, if you follow the above tips thoroughly, you can easily get relief in your lower back pain.

If you are suffering from lower back pain and want to get moving again, all you have to do is just to follow the right treatment procedures while practicing certain cautions. Muscle spasms is just one of the many possible causes of back pain. Before you start a specific treatment program, make sure that you first get the problem diagnosed thoroughly.

Lower back pain is one of the common reasons for a visit to the physician. Nearly all adults will experience the problem at one time in their lives. The discomforts of the problem do not correlate well with its severity. In fact, a simple muscle spasm can lead to severe lower back pain whereas a herniated disc can be painless. Although the problem may be mild, you cannot just ignore it. Here are some facts that will help you understand your discomfort.

Causes

The possible causes of severe lower back pain are simple muscular strain or serious conditions like degenerative disc disease or lumbar herniated disc. Muscular strains are often the cause of the problem. It occurs due to muscle overwork. Oftentimes, rest and massage therapy will relieve the condition. For the more serious type, a thorough medical work up is necessary before you can correct the condition.

Diagnosis

Aside from the diagnostic workout that your physician will request, the nature and description of the severe lower back pain is crucial in making the diagnosis. Usually, your doctor will ask you to grade the severity of the ache. You will have to describe the onset, duration, site, and any possible limitations in your movement. Neurological tests then follow as well as other physical examinations.

Treatment

While you are still waiting for the results of the diagnostic tests, your doctor can prescribe you to take analgesics to relieve you from severe lower back pain. Hot and cold compress is also advisable to treat the condition. Once the diagnosis has been confirmed, your physician will now focus on treating the underlying cause of the discomfort.

Niles Armstrong is not some fancy-schmancy doctor. He is just someone who has had to deal with back spasms in his life. He has tried hundreds of “can’t miss” products. The only one that has ever worked for him is Back2Life. You can see exactly what he did to cure his back pain. Find out from someone who has actually tried the product, before you buy.
