BackJoy Reviews: A Review of the BackJoy Portable Supportive Back Orthotic Seat
Hi everyone. This is quite an extensive review of the BackJoy Portable Supportive Back Orthotic Seat by BackJoy Orthotics LLC. This review of the BackJoy Orthotic seat includes FAQs I’ve learned from reading other BackJoy reviews, the BackJoy Core vs BackJoy Basic, how the BackJoy orthotics work, why BackJoy is different, how you should use BackJoy, when you should feel results, and much more. This video explains how to use the BackJoy seat topper. There are other videos at the site including spinal animation, height demo, office demo, even a respiratory demo on how it improves circulation and breathing due to your posture. BackJoy is advertised as a revolutionary portable sitting device that’s designed to stop back pain when you sit anywhere, it’s suppose to be comfortable and easy to use. I’ll go into a lot more detail about the BackJoy orthotics including key improvements to the BackJoy Core, what conditions BackJoy helps, endorsements of the BackJoy, what it’s made out of, basically all aspects of BackJoy the back orthotic.
BackJoy Review: BackJoy FAQs
First, What is BackJoy orthotics? To explain that, I’ll first explain orthotics. Orthotics is as an allied health professional concerned with design, development, fitting and manufacuturing of orthoses, which are devices that correct or support musculoskeletal deformities and abnormalities in the human body. Ortho means to “straighten”. Sciences of materials, engineering, anatomy and physiology contribute to this. People with orthopedic conditions, fractures, physical impairments or a congenital abnormality benefit from orthotics. This could include scoliosis, stroke, spinal cord injury, spina bifida or cerebral palsy. When used correctly, orthoses can reduce pain and stabilize an unstable joint, preventing possible progression or development How Do BackJoy Orthotics Work and Why is BackJoy Different? BackJoy Orthotics are suppose to correct your sitting posture in simple terms, but the cause of back pain when sitting is your buttocks or gluteus muscles flattening and spreading out under your weight. The BackJoy’s patented Orthotic Cradling System is suppose to relieve pressure and strain by revolutionizing the way you sit. It’s design is suppose to work personally for your unique back. They say it will adapt to accommodate the way you sit, whether slouched, sitting back or sitting up straight. It “tilts” to correct your posture, “cradles” your buttocks muscles so they don’t flatten and spread, and “lift” your pelvis to relieve pressure. They say that the BackJoy Orthotics is apparently the only system to do this. How should you use the BackJoy Back Orthotic? As the video above explains, it’s very easy, but you need to do it correctly:
- Sit on it and pull the handle or push the BackJoy until it is snug against you. You should feel it cupping your buttocks.
- Lean a little forward and pressing with your feet to “scoot” your butt to the rear of the seat. It will move with you.
- Make sure it’s fully under you, and it doesn’t slip behind you. There should be no space between you and the BackJoy.
DON’T put it behind your back — it shouldn’t touch your back. When Should You Feel Results with the BackJoy Back? They indicate that many people feel relief right away, and it may take weeks of regular use for others to feel the benefits. It obviously depends on your individual situation and medical history or conditions, and how often you use it. They say that to get the most benefit and quickest results, you need to use it [according to the directions] as much as possible everywhere you sit. What’s the Difference Between the BackJoy Basic and the BackJoy Core? The BackJoy Core is the “improvement” of the BackJoy Basic, with 25 years of research they say. The shape is similar, but they indicate that it’s much more effective and comfortable. The biggest improvement is suppose to be the Pelvic Tipping System to help you get more movement of your pelvis and engage your core when you sit, which is important. The company says that the BackJoy Core has newer technology, materials, improved design, clinical studies, and a lot more consumer feedback. The BackJoy Basic is a ‘utility’ design while the BackJoy Core is ‘performance’. The benefits they say it has are:
- Increased support strength
- Newer aerobic design for more breathability
- Softer and fabric’s more comfortable
- Softer under the thigh pressure points
- Stronger sub-structure design provides more comfort on hard surfaces
- Carry handle
The BackJoy materials are formulated to “provide ‘super memory’ and extraordinary flexibility. These materials were originally invented for the aerospace industry. It’s very durable, and will keep its shape and flexibility under very extreme pressures.”
How Do I Know It’s Working If I Don’t Feel Anything? BackJoy says the best way to check this is to sit on the BackJoy for a few moments the way you should, then remove it. They tell you to sit without the BackJoy and you’ll feel your buttocks muscles flatten and spread, which causes pressure and pain. Put it back under you [properly] and you should feel the difference. They indicate that your pelvis should be ‘cradled’ in muscle tissue, and if you don’t feel much that’s a good thing, because that means you’re doing the right thing to prevent back pain or a back pain injury from sitting. You should just feel comfortable. Will BackJoy Stop Back Pain from Starting? BackJoy is a preventative maintenance device to help you avoid repetitive stress injury caused by sitting for long periods of time, or to prevent prior back pain from reoccurring. What If My Back Hurts When I Sit on the BackJoy? They say that this may happen because you’re changing your sitting posture to correct the problems, so you may have some discomfort or pain initially. They say if you feel more tightness when you first use it, limit your use to 15 minutes, then 30, etc. over a few days or weeks. With continual use, they indicate that you’ll get more strength and lasting relief, and if the pain increases after doing this, stop using it and consult with your doctor, which I suggest, anyway. Will BackJoy Work For My Conditions?
BackJoy is suppose to work and provide relief by reducing the pressures that aggravate the underlying causes of a wide range of acute and chronic back pain issues including low back pain, herniated disks, degenerative disk disease, sciatica, back injuries, and more. You should check with your doctor to make sure it will help your specific issues. They say that BackJoy will help relieve and prevent these lower back symptoms from everyday things like over-use or abuse, lifting, poor posture, prior injury, etc.:
- Soreness, Aching and Burning
- Pressure
- Strain and Tightness
Is BackJoy Endorsed, and if so, Who Endorses It? BackJoy is endorsed by Nurses, Chiropractic and Medical Doctors, Physical Therapists, Osteopathic Doctors and Pharmacists. How Do I Know if the BackJoy Will Fit Me? The company says that the BackJoy orthotic should be smaller than your buttocks. It comes in one size and is most effective for people who weigh between 90 and 300 pounds. It cradles the space around your “sitting bones” at the bottom of your pelvis (4-5″ space). It’s small because it “floats” your spinal system in a natural cushion, which is what makes it so comfortable. It’s not suppose to cradle your entire buttocks. Where Can I Use the BackJoy? You can use the BackJoy portable supportive back on various seating surfaces at home, while driving or commuting, at the office or traveling. They provide more details at their website. BackJoy is apparently the only natural cushioning and cradling device that will prevent strain from muscular flatting in all of these situations, wherever you sit. You can use BackJoy traveling by rolling it up or bending it however you need to for storage in a briefcase, luggage, etc. Some people use it to protect their laptop when traveling. They say that you can’t hurt it, and your body warmth will return it to its original shape when you use it again. What Will My Doctor Say About the BackJoy? The company says that the BackJoy can work with your therapeutic regimen. Ask your doctor to recommend a sitting posture that will transfer the most pressure and strain off your specific condition. BackJoy won’t work you if you’re confined to a wheel chair, have a form of muscular atrophy, or if you have trouble standing or walking for any length of time. Does the BackJoy Work on Soft Couches and Chairs? The company says that it does, that BackJoy’s Orthotic Cradling System will float your spinal area over a soft sitting surface the same as a hard surface. Although they say that it might not feel like it’s doing as much, it is. Your muscles can flatten and spread more than they would on a hard surface. They say that only the BackJoy orthotic can prevent this on soft couches or chairs.
