Causes: What Can Cause and What Can Cause?

Your back is comprised of over 30 muscles, many ligaments, joints, discs and 33 vertebrae.  So , you can see how easy it is to cause back pain.  I’ve talked about many back pain causes, but will give a brief overview of the most common back pain causes, then will review some other issues that back pain can cause.  Some of the most common back pain causes include:

  • Muscular strain, or muscle spasm caused by a sudden or awkward movement, fall or other impact, over-straining your back, lifting bulky or heavy items, awkward angles, pushing, pulling, lifting, twisting, or trauma.  This causes inflammation or injury including possible tearing.   are common when the back is stretched beyond its capacity.  These commonly occur with muscle strains.
  • are caused by compression of the spinal nerves.  They result from repetitive motion like machine operators or truck drivers, or unaccustomed heavy loading on the back.  Proper lifting is Very Important.  Sciatica is a common form of a herniated disc or “radicular” back pain, along the nerve(s).
  • Osteoporosis is a common cause of back pain, particularly in women and when you’re older.  It affects the spinal joints. It’s referred to as a “degenerative joint ”.  It can get worse the longer it goes when bearing weight or walking.  Surgery is sometimes needed for this.
  • Spinal Stenosis is another back pain cause, also more common in people over 50.  It’s a narrowing of the spinal canal and includes thickening of ligaments, bone spurs, and enlarged joints (cartilate) from arthritis-type changes.  It also gets worse with longer periods of bearing weight or walking, and may need surgery.
  • Fibromyalgia is another common cause of chronic back pain and chronic lower back pain.  It’s rheumatic which includes soft tissue pain, sleep interruptions, and widespread, evenly-distributed tenderness.
  • Other common causes of back pain are: #1 Poor Posture, standing, sitting or hunching, bending too long, constipation, gas, , kidney stones or , dehydration, smoking or even eating the wrong foods (sugar, processed foods).  Eat more raw, organic types of foods.

What Other Health Issues Can Back Pain Cause?

There are a lot of other health issues that back pain can cause, including sleep problems, stomach pain, erectile dysfunction, and bladder issues, infections, and obviously other related body and , neck pain, inflammation, injury, nausea, even disease.  It can be very limiting and debilitating physically, and can cause emotionally.  So, there are obviously a lot of other issues that back pain can cause.  They can be very inter-related.

Back Pain Remedy, Chronic Lower Back Pain Remedies, Back Strengthening Exercises and

There are a lot of back pain remedies and chronic lower back pain remedies available, but I won’t go into all of them here again.  The MOST IMPORTANT back pain remedy you can do is Back Strengthening Exercises and Back Stretching Exercises.  Your back will never get stronger, more flexible or fit if you don’t maintain it.  One of the most important back strengthening exercises you can actually do are Stomach strengthening exercises, because your stomach muscles actually support your spine.  Back stretching exercises are very important, and you should do this before back strengthening exercises to limber your back up and get it more flexible and ‘tuned up’.  Exercising in general helps back pain and many other issues because it gets your blood circulating, which increases oxygen everywhere, and improves your body and system conditioning and fitness.

Lower Back Pain Left Side: Differences Between Lower Back Pain on Left Side and Lower Back Pain Kidney Symptoms, Causes and Treatment

Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009

Many of us experience in the left or right side and don’t know whether it may be related to kidney symptoms.  I’m going to review primarily the back pain causes of lower back pain left side and lower back pain kidney symptoms to help you better understand what might be causing your back pain in the left or right side.

I’ll review possible causes and symptoms of lower back pain on the left side, then lower back pain kidney causes and symptoms, and list some possible in treating lower back pain.

There are a lot of possible causes of lower back pain on the left side.  I’ll list some of the most common causes and symptoms along with possible remedies.  Some of the main causes of left side or right side back pain can be any of the following:

  • Carrying a heavy purse or bag on one side
  • Sitting on a thick wallet
  • Back strain, pulled muscle or other muscle imbalance
  • An inadequate mattress or poor laying or sleeping position
  • A tilted pelvis due to one leg being shorter than the other (Fairly common.  My right leg is 1/2″ longer than my left, which can cause me a lot of pain due to the pelvic tilt to one side.  I have to wear a small lift in my left shoe to help accomodate that.)
  • Gastrointestinal / Digestive – , irritable syndrome (IBS)
  • Weight gain
  • Aging or wear and tear

Other possible causes can include:

  • Kidney infection or referred pain from the kidney for a urinary tract infection, bladder infection, etc.
  • Prostate or
  • Herniated disc, other spinal issue or cracked or broken rib
  • Pregnancy
  • Renal dysfunction (kidney problems that reduce the body’s ability to retain adequate essential nutrients and clear toxins from the blood)
  • Diverticulosis (small pouches develop in the lining of the large intestine extending into the muscular tissue around it.  If they get infected or inflamed, it’s diverticulitis.  Rare instances also occur in the stomach or small intestine)

Lower Back Pain Kidney

Lower back pain can come from the kidney, and lower back pain kidney causes and symptoms can be similar.  But there are some very different symptoms of kidney lower back pain.

Kidney back pain is normally felt where the kidneys are, just above the highest part of the pelvis on either side of the lower back.  It  can also be referred to the frontal groin or hip area.  If there ar multiple symptoms, it can be attributable to the kidney.  These may include:

  • Kidney injury from a fall or accident
  • Kidney infection. Symptoms of a kidney infection can include any of the following:

    • Lower back pain on one or both sides which can radiate into the groin or up to the waist
    • Tenderness or ache in the kidney area and can radiate to other areas
    • Fever or high temperature, chills, backache
    • May feel sick and possibly vomit
    • Urine may be cloudy and/or smell different, and may be bloody
    • You may have to urinate more frequently and it may burn
  • :

    • Can be painless if they’re small, but if they’re larger, they can get lodged as the body tries to pass them.  This can be very painful.  They can also cause an infection that leads to the same symptoms above.

Your doctor can run bacterial, blood or functioning tests to determine kidney related issues.  Treatment can include rest and antibiotics.  It can last several weeks, but could be longer.

Lower back pain symptoms and treatment are different:

  • Symptoms are normally more local
  • There may be a sudden back pain
  • It may get better or worse by moving differently
  • It doesn’t cause a fever, illness or other symptoms above
  • Treatments such as heat or ice therapy, stretching exercises, back pain medicine or muscle relaxants, massage therapy, back support and therapy help relieve the pain temporarily

back pain relief products

If the pain subsides with any of these back pain relief products or therapy, you more than likely have lower back pain symptoms versus a kidney issue.  Lower back pain caused by a kidney problem won’t go away or subside with these treatments.

The bottom line is that you you don’t want to let it go on indefinitely or try to diagnose it yourself.  If you have lower back pain left side, right side or lower back pain kidney symptoms you need to see your doctor, particularly if it continues or worsens.  Kidney issues can be very serious, and you want to make sure you get the right information and diagnosis so it’s treated promptly and correctly.  If you have a family history of kidney , or had a recent fall or accident of some type that could have damaged your kidneys, you should see your doctor right away.  Treatment for the two is very different, and you need to be sure you’re treating the right condition to avoid further risk to your health.
