Lower Back Pain Left Side: Differences Between Lower Back Pain on Left Side and Lower Back Pain Kidney Symptoms, Causes and Treatment

Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009

Many of us experience lower back pain in the left or right side and don’t know whether it may be related to symptoms.  I’m going to review primarily the back pain causes of lower back pain left side and lower back pain kidney symptoms to help you better understand what might be causing your back pain in the left or right side.

I’ll review possible causes and symptoms of lower back pain on the left side, then lower back pain kidney causes and symptoms, and list some possible in .

There are a lot of possible causes of lower back pain on the left side.  I’ll list some of the most common causes and symptoms along with possible remedies.  Some of the main causes of left side or right side back pain can be any of the following:

  • Carrying a heavy purse or bag on one side
  • Sitting on a thick wallet
  • Back strain, pulled muscle or other muscle imbalance
  • An inadequate mattress or poor laying or sleeping position
  • A tilted pelvis due to one leg being shorter than the other (Fairly common.  My right leg is 1/2″ longer than my left, which can cause me a lot of pain due to the pelvic tilt to one side.  I have to wear a small lift in my left shoe to help accomodate that.)
  • Gastrointestinal / Digestive – gas, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
  • Weight gain
  • Aging or wear and tear

Other possible causes can include:

  • Kidney infection or referred pain from the kidney for a urinary tract infection, bladder infection, etc.
  • Prostate or Sciatica
  • Herniated disc, other spinal issue or cracked or broken rib
  • Pregnancy
  • Renal dysfunction (kidney problems that reduce the body’s ability to retain adequate essential nutrients and clear toxins from the blood)
  • Diverticulosis (small pouches develop in the lining of the large intestine extending into the muscular tissue around it.  If they get infected or inflamed, it’s diverticulitis.  Rare instances also occur in the stomach or small intestine)

Lower Back Pain Kidney

Lower back pain can come from the kidney, and lower back pain kidney causes and symptoms can be similar.  But there are some very different symptoms of kidney lower back pain.

Kidney back pain is normally felt where the kidneys are, just above the highest part of the pelvis on either side of the lower back.  It  can also be referred to the frontal groin or hip area.  If there ar multiple symptoms, it can be attributable to the kidney.  These may include:

  • Kidney injury from a fall or accident
  • Kidney infection. Symptoms of a kidney infection can include any of the following:

    • Lower back pain on one or both sides which can radiate into the groin or up to the waist
    • Tenderness or ache in the kidney area and can radiate to other areas
    • Fever or high temperature, chills, backache
    • May feel sick and possibly vomit
    • Urine may be cloudy and/or smell different, and may be bloody
    • You may have to urinate more frequently and it may burn
  • Kidney stones:

    • Can be painless if they’re small, but if they’re larger, they can get lodged as the body tries to pass them.  This can be very painful.  They can also cause an infection that leads to the same symptoms above.

Your doctor can run bacterial, blood or functioning tests to determine kidney related issues.  Treatment can include rest and antibiotics.  It can last several weeks, but could be longer.

Lower back pain symptoms and treatment are different:

  • Symptoms are normally more local
  • There may be a sudden back pain
  • It may get better or worse by moving differently
  • It doesn’t cause a fever, illness or other symptoms above
  • Treatments such as heat or ice therapy, stretching exercises, back pain medicine or muscle relaxants, massage therapy, back support and therapy help relieve the pain temporarily

back pain relief products

If the pain subsides with any of these back pain relief products or therapy, you more than likely have lower back pain symptoms versus a kidney issue.  Lower back pain caused by a kidney problem won’t go away or subside with these treatments.

The bottom line is that you you don’t want to let it go on indefinitely or try to diagnose it yourself.  If you have lower back pain left side, right side or lower back pain kidney symptoms you need to see your doctor, particularly if it continues or worsens.  Kidney issues can be very serious, and you want to make sure you get the right information and diagnosis so it’s treated promptly and correctly.  If you have a family history of kidney infections, or had a recent fall or accident of some type that could have damaged your kidneys, you should see your doctor right away.  Treatment for the two is very different, and you need to be sure you’re treating the right condition to avoid further risk to your health.

Back Pain Cause: A Lower Back Pain Remedy and Treating Lower Back Pain

Friday, July 17th, 2009

We all know the hurried pace and stress everyone seems to be under nowadays.  You don’t feel you have time to breathe, let alone relax.  You’re up early rushing to get ready for work, get the kids ready for school, throwing your coffee and hopefully some breakfast down.  Then you’re rushing to work, dropping the kids or carpooler off, rushing through work, lunch, hurrying from work to get the kids or go shopping, help the kids with homework or run them to their activities, fix a meal, and maybe have some time to sit and relax before you go to bed and do it all over again!  And you wonder what your back pain cause may be from?!

This could be a Big reason why you have s.  Think about it – the stress of rushing every day trying to squeeze everything in day after day, month after month, year after year..  Stress causes your muscles to tighten up, and you sit at home, sit in your car, sit at work, sit in your car again – you get the picture.  There are a lot of things that cause back pain and lower back pain, but stress and some others I’ll list briefly below are Big factors;
not only for your back pain but your general health.  You need to Take a Breath, Slow Down, Give Yourself a Break.  You’re not doing yourself or anyone else any good running yourself into the ground and stressing out about it!  You have to Make time to take care of yourself.

I’ve listed many causes in prior posts, but will focus on some others I haven’t discussed much before:

  • An inactive lifestyle
  • Smoking (reduces blood flow to lower spine)
  • Age (muscles are less elastic and bones are not as strong)
  • Poor sleeping positions, as well as sitting, standing, bending, etc. – Posture
  • You also need to remember that children are susceptible to back pain.  They put a lot of weight on their backs carrying backpacks, etc. and are exposing themselves to lower back muscle spasms and as adults if not before
  • Stress and being overweight are big contributors, as I’ve said before

Once you’ve identified your back pain cause there are also a lot of , some of which I’ve talked about before.  Besides being conscientious of your posture, positions, angles, breathing, back strengthening and stretching exercises, there are quite a few things you can do in your daily routine in .

Treating Lower Back Pain

treating lower back painOne relaxation technique you can do is:

  • Lay on the floor or firm surface on your back
  • Take a deep breath and feel where the tension is in your body
  • Try to reduce the tension in each body part one at a time by focusing on relaxing that body part.
You can begin at your toes, then your feet, ankles, calves, etc. and slowly work your way up to the top of your head, relaxing one part at a time.  This is also helpful for sleeping at night, and it works because I’ve done it.

This is just one , but it’s a good one and very relaxing.  I’ve also listed quite a few other relaxation techniques, muscle stretching exercises and back strengthening exercises in other articles.  Learn more about quality economical back and body support, massage therapy, magnetic therapy, sleep support, ergonomic seating, inversion therapy and other Back Pain Products.

Please let me know if you have any questions, I’d be happy to help you.

Back Pain Cause: Stop Your Back Pain Cause Now! Treating Lower Back Pain and a Lower Back Pain Remedy

Tuesday, July 7th, 2009

Back Pain Cause

and s are some of the most commonly experienced health issues worldwide.  They say that 8 out of every 10 people will experience back pain at least once in their lives.  One of the possibly surprising causes of lower back pain is inactivity, lack of movement.  It’s believed that continued muscle strain can lead to an imbalance in the structure of the spine, which leads to constant tension on muscles, ligaments, discs and bones.  This makes the back more injury prone.

These back pain causes can exacerbate each another, meaning that if you strain a muscle, you’ll walk or move differently to avoid the pain or tightness.  This can cause a strain of other muscles that don’t usually work that way.

Some of the most common s can be one or more of the following issues:

  • Misuse or overuse of a muscle (muscle strain), ligament or joint
  • Injury or re-injury
  • Pressure on nerve roots which could be a herniated disc or osteoarthritis (degeneration of the joint)
  • Spondylolysis or Spondylolisthesis: vertebra slide over each other when aggravated by doing certain things
  • Spinal stenosis: a narrowing of the spinal canal which usually develops with age
  • Vertebrae fractures caused by a lot of force like a car accident or other intense blow to the spine, or a compression of the spine by falling on your head or buttocks
  • Spinal deformities include a curvature of the spine such as scoliosis (side curvature) or kyphosis (outward curvature)
  • Compression fractures are more common with postmenopausal women with Osteoporosis or men or women after long-term use of corticosteroids (psoriasis treatment)
  • Inactivity or sitting.  You sit at home, you sit in your car, you sit at work, you come home and sit, and you go to bed
